The community of Vicksburg is mourning the tragic loss of 29-year-old Brekyra Fisher, who was fatally shot on Saturday evening at Alcorn State University in Claiborne County, Mississippi. The incident, which occurred near the Industrial Technology Building around 6:30 p.m., also left two others injured.

According to Claiborne County Coroner Kieon Neal, Fisher was pronounced dead at the scene. Her family has been notified of the heartbreaking news.
Authorities, including the Claiborne County Sheriff’s Office, responded promptly after the university issued an emergency alert warning students and staff to seek shelter immediately. The message urged everyone to remain indoors until an “all-clear” was given by campus police.
Following the initial investigation, Alcorn State University Police Chief Doug Stewart handed over the case to the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation, with local deputies assisting in the ongoing probe.
Sheriff Edward Goods confirmed that three victims were found suffering from gunshot wounds, one of whom was later identified as Fisher. “This is a tragic day for the community and the families involved,” he said.
Fisher, a native of Vicksburg, was described by friends and loved ones as a devoted mother, loyal friend, and radiant spirit who always brought joy to those around her. Social media has since flooded with emotional tributes honoring her memory.
Tonie Trisby, a longtime friend, shared a heartfelt message:
“My heart is sooo heavy this morning for your babies & family, Brekyra. We grew up together, went to daycare together, and even though we lost contact over the years, it was always good vibes when we saw each other.”
Another friend, Jessica Smith, expressed her deep sorrow, writing:
“It was nothing in this world I wouldn’t have done for you and those babies. I had your front, your back, and your side. I’m gonna miss you, BM. Never met nobody like you.”
Her cousin, Nikki Smith, also spoke out, calling for prayers and peace:
“We are already dealing with one death, and then boom, somebody takes her sister away. Brekyra, you didn’t deserve that at all. We love you and will miss you.”
Others remembered Fisher’s warmth, her laughter, and her devotion to her children. Ariel Nichole, who knew her through the daycare community, wrote:
“Gia loved her some Brent & Brekyra made sure he would always walk her to class. Them babies didn’t deserve to lose their mom. Get your rest, baby girl.”
The news of Fisher’s death has sent shockwaves across Vicksburg and the Alcorn State community. As law enforcement continues to investigate the motive and identify those responsible, loved ones are left grappling with disbelief and pain.
“Lord knows you didn’t deserve this,” wrote Luquasha Turner, one of Fisher’s relatives. “My heart is hurting for you and your babies. This world is a wicked place.”
On what should have been a day of joy — her birthday — friends like Katelyn Jenkins lamented that it will now forever be a day of remembrance.
“It’s your birthday, baby, and I’m sorry this is how it will be remembered. Y’all kids gotta do better, bruh.”
The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation continues to lead the case, with the Claiborne County Sheriff’s Office assisting. Authorities have not yet released information about potential suspects or motives.
Anyone with relevant information is urged to contact law enforcement as the community seeks justice for Brekyra Fisher and healing for all affected.
