The communities of Atlanta, Georgia, and Beaufort, South Carolina, are mourning the tragic death of Ashantek Danielle, one of the victims killed in the mass shooting at Willie’s Bar and Grill early Sunday morning on St. Helena Island.
The Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that the shooting, which occurred shortly before 1 a.m., left four people dead and nearly 20 others injured. The senseless act of violence has devastated families and sent shockwaves through the Lowcountry community.
Authorities said the shooting erupted during a large gathering at the popular restaurant and bar located on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Drive. When deputies arrived, they found a chaotic scene with hundreds of people fleeing for cover and multiple victims suffering from gunshot wounds.
Among those who tragically lost their lives were Amos Gary, Roddy “NKayKay”, and Ashantek Danielle — a beloved young mother, daughter, and friend remembered for her beautiful soul and boundless energy.
Ashantek Danielle, who lived in Atlanta, Georgia, and was originally from Beaufort, South Carolina, worked at Taylored Services and studied at UEI College. Friends describe her as a hard-working, loving woman devoted to her children and family.
Social media has since filled with tributes as loved ones struggle to comprehend the heartbreaking news.
Squirepope Quille, a close friend, expressed sorrow, writing:
“I’m so sorry this happened to you, Ashantek. It’s never a sad moment when I’m with y’all, always talking, always laughing. Love y’all down — cousins for life. Hate this life.”
Her cousin Ivory Albarezz shared an emotional post that captured the community’s grief:
“Not my cousin, man! Not my first cousin! I’m lost for words — shocked doesn’t even cover it. She didn’t deserve this, and neither do her babies. When are y’all gonna put the guns down, man?”
Another cousin, Carolina Zeldie, remembered Danielle’s kind spirit and family devotion:
“She was such a beautiful spirit, always about her business and doing that mommy ish. Always helping and showing up for family. Thank you for every time you opened the door for me last summer. We were true grandma babies — I love you, Ashantek.”
Star Sims, heartbroken by the news, added:
“The first thing I saw this morning just broke my heart. Sending prayers to Ashantek’s family and loved ones — especially her two babies. She was the sweetest.”
The St. Helena Island shooting has left residents shaken and demanding change. The Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate the tragedy, urging witnesses to come forward with any information.
